Mixed reality remote assist and education​​.

Welcome.

This Open Educational Resource (OER) has been created to encourage thinking around the use of mixed reality remote assist in education. After exploring each topic covered, participants are encouraged to engage with the activities, tasks and critical questions included within each section. This OER aims to provoke thought and discussion around mixed reality remote assist technologies while building a better understanding amongst educators of their potential for future use within education.

What does it contain?

This OER is for anyone interested in the potential of mixed reality remote assist use in education. It explores what it is, and when we should be using these types of technologies in support of remote learning. The consequence of their implementation, how they may affect students​, and what becomes the role of the teacher in a remote assist learning environment.
This OER is organised into following four key blocks:
  • Introduction and key concepts - in this block we explore mixed reality remote assist and its potential for use across educational sectors.
  • From industry to education - examines the background behind the challenges and relationships between remote assist knowledge transfer, entanglements, datafication and security from an educational perspective.
  • Best practice - in this block we will critically engage with a fictional case study, using it to identify best practice for implementing remote assist in educational environments.
  • ​Conclusions - here we summarise what we have learned, and consider potential next steps.

Before you start
This is what you will need to successfully complete this OER:
  • Three hours. Approximately how much time you should allow to work through the four blocks, which make up this OER.
  • Internet access. Your computer, tablet or mobile device will need audio enabled as there are videos to watch.
  • A Notebook. Or pen and paper for noting down your thoughts, impressions and ideas, allowing you to critically engage with the activities and reflective questions throughout the resource.
